My work placement
I’m ???????? and I am eighteen years old. I 'm doing a second-year post-a-level diploma to be a laboratory technician. I live alone in Angers. I’m a student at Jean Moulin high school in Angers.
I did my first work placement in a veterinary laboratory in ?????????????. I found my placement with the help of my father. I sent him my letter and my resume which he gave to the laboratory on my behalf. I spent five weeks in this lab. I had to look for salmonella in food.
It was very interesting as I had some real hands-on experience. I am really interested in this type of work because I gained a lot of experience. We did many things that many people don't know about or understand and I have no regrets for the moment.
After my Higher National Certificate I don't know if I will continue on to do a professional degree or if I will stop my studies. For my next holidays I hope to go to ??????????? to be with my family and my friends.
For the future I hope to have a job and live a normal family life.

“Interview about me and about my internship.”
???????? (me) - E : Examiner.
Good morning sir, I’m here for an interview.
Examiner : Oh yes, I was waiting for you, please take a seat.
M : Thank you.
E : So please, tell me a little bit about yourself.
M : My name is ??????????, I am ???????????? years old and I am doing a post-A-level diploma at Jean Moulin high school, in Angers but I live in ???????????.
E : So does that mean you go back home every day after school ?
M : Oh no, no, only for the week-ends, I have got my own flat in Angers that I can stay in during the week.
E : Oh yes I can see what you mean. Why did you choose this city and this field ?
M : I have always been interested in biotechnology, so this diploma seemed to be the best one to prepare me for what I want to do in the future. And I chose Angers because this is the closest city from ???????? which offers this type of Higher National Certificate, so it is better for my parents : that way, I am not far away from them. I also have family in Angers, so it is very reassuring for my parents, because they know that if I have any problems, my uncle and my aunt can be there in a few minutes.
E : All right. I agree with your parents that it might be very reassuring for them to know that your uncle and your aunt are not living far away from you! But, we can say that this is not really you who chose this city. But anyway, do you like this city ?
M : Yes, I really like this place. I had already been here a couple of times before starting my studies, so I knew what to expect and I am not disappointed at all, Angers is a real “student city”. It’s a pleasure to live here.
E : Is it not strange for you to live alone, without your parents and brother(s) and sister(s), if you have any ?
M : I have got one little brother. At the beginning, yes, it was strange because I had to cook , do the washing, do my grocery shopping, … But I go back home, in ???????, every weekend, so I do not have enough time to feel alone. And I have got four roommates where I live, so I am never really alone.
E : It is good for you that you have adapted well. Let’s talk about your internship, now that it is over. How did you find it ?
M : I found it thanks to the head of the department of clinical parasitology.
E : Was it hard to find ?
M : Yes it was. I sent approximately twenty letters and copies of my CV before getting a positive response. All the others were negative. When you receive a negative answer, it is really disappointing.
E : Where did you do you your internship then ? How long did it last? What was it about and what did you learn ?
M : I did it in ??????????, for six weeks. At ???????????l, in the parasitology laboratory. It was very interesting. My topic of my internship was “Parasite and fungal immunology through molecular testing”. I had to know how to diagnose a parasitic disease using a special technique. After that, I had to find a way to inhibit this parasite. I learned and I saw things that I would never have seen in class. I learned so many things, for example : how parasites work to create a disease, their metabolism and every thing about them. This is why internships are so interesting, you can do things that you could never do anywhere else! And this is the “real life”, a first experience of the world of work, and it allows us to know if we really enjoy the job that we want to do. Because during our life, we only hear about the job that we want to do, but never really get the chance to do it. So how can we know if it is the right job for us ? This internship allowed me to know that this is really what I want to do in the future.
E : Were your colleagues nice to you ?
M : Yes, they were really nice to me. They were always asking me if I needed help with anything, or if there were things that I did not understand, … They were very professional. And I have got another eight weeks internship at the end of the year for my second year, so I will see them again.
E : This internship seemed to be very interesting and very good for you. It seems to me that you loved it, and that is good to hear. It is very good for you to know in which sector you want to work. And what do you actually want to do in the future, what job would you like to do?
M : I would like to be a bio-technician in legal medicine, and in this sector, you have to work with parasites, so my internship was a first approach. But I would like to work abroad.
E : Hm, it seems interesting ! Where abroad would you like to work ?
M : I would like to work somewhere where people speak English. In England, Canada or the United States. I do not know yet. But after graduating, I would like to finish my studies abroad, in a university, in Canada. What is good about doing that is the fact that I will have the equivalence in France, which is very good for my CV!
E : Yes you are completely right. I hope you will be able to fulfill your goal, because you seem really motivated!
M : Yes, I am. This has always been what I wanted to do, ever since I was a little girl. And I am lucky that my parents are behind me, they always have supported me in my studies.
E : It is good for you then that your parents stand by you, this is the best thing that they can do for you I think. Well, it was very nice to talk with you, and to get to know you and to find out more about your internship. I hope your second internship will be as good as your first and that you will keep good memories of it. Maybe we will see each other again, who knows! Good bye.
M : It was a pleasure to have this interview with you Sir. Have a good day, good bye.
E: Examiner.
