Levels of biological organization

Terms / Definitions

1) Abiotic Factors= Non-living factors including temperature, water, sunlight, wind, rocks and soil

2) Atom= The smallest particle into which an element can be divided and still be the same substance
.
3) Biosphere= Portion of Earth that supports life; extends from high in the atmosphere to the bottom of the oceans
.
4) Biotic Factors= Living things in an ecosystem
.
5) Cell= Smallest most basic unit of life
.
6) Community= A group of various species that live in the same place and interact with one another
.
7) Ecosystem= All the living and non-living things that interect in an area.

8) Molecule= A structure with a defined number of atoms in a particular spatial arrangement
.
9)Organ= Group of tissues that perform the same task
.
10) Organelle= Specialized internal structure within a cell

11) Organism= Any living thing

12) Organ system= Multifunctional group of organs
.
13) Population Group of organisms all of the same species which interbreed and live in the same place at the same time
.
14) Specie= Taxonomic group whose members can interbreed
.
15) Tissue= Made up of similar cells that perform the same function
